Did you know smoking is not only bad for your body but it also has a large negative impact on your oral health as well? Smoking can slow implant/surgery healing, cause more plaque development, worsen gum disease/recession and increase your risk of oral cancer. It can also cause a dry socket which can make healing after surgery more painful. There are also cosmetic effects that are a result of smoking such as stained teeth and bad breath.
We strongly recommend quitting smoking for your overall health. We especially recommend not smoking before and after a major surgery (such as implant placement surgery or extractions). We know quitting is extremely difficult, but the payoff is definitely worth it!
