Following many cleaning appointments, there is an option to get fluoride. Now, you may be wondering what is fluoride and why should I get fluoride?
What is fluoride?
Fluoride is a mineral often found in water and dental products that is good for strengthening teeth and preventing tooth decay. In our office, fluoride is delivered in the form of a concentrated paste that should be left on for at least 30 minutes to reach the maximum effect. Fluoride can help make teeth more resistant to acidic food and can make them more resistant to forming cavities and prevents bacterial overgrowth in the mouth.
Why should I get fluoride?
Fluoride is highly recommended and is especially helpful if you are at high risk of developing cavities. It can also help reduce root sensitivity as well!
Fluoride treatments are highly recommended as they help prevent future cavities development and can reduce sensitivity in teeth, but it may not always be covered by insurance. In the case where insurance does not cover the cost of the fluoride, the out of pocket cost would be $15.
